CB Advisors Create Programing to Ensure Arizona Marijuana Facilities Are In Compliance With Mandatory Laboratory Testing
Governor Doug Ducey signed Senate Bill 1494 into law in June 2019, which will go into effect starting November 2020. The law will require Arizona dispensaries to test all medical marijuana for microbial contamination, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, growth regulators, and residual solvents and confirm the potency of the marijuana to be dispensed.
Dispensaries will have to ensure all packaging and labeling meet requirements to include laboratory testing results, such as the percentage of total tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabidiol, and any other cannabinoid for which the dispensary is making a claim related to the effect of the cannabinoid on the body.
To ensure that your business is prepared for the implementation of the new law, Cannabis Business Advisors curated a package that includes a set of steps and documents to help your business ensure compliance with SB 1494, Arizona’s new testing regulations. This comprehensive package includes Testing Regulations and Editable Timeline, Packaging and Labeling Guidance and Mockup, Supplemental Document Change Order Guidance, and Compliant Testing Related Policies and Procedures Templates.
Currently, 22% – 30% of Arizona medical marijuana products that are tested, fail SB 1494 testing requirements. Keep in mind, remediating products for pesticide and/or heavy metals can take 2 – 3 grow cycles to purge pesticide contaminants and/or heavy metals from plant tissue.
