M.O.R.E  Act

 

Members of the US House of Representatives have announced Thursday that they will hold a floor vote next week on the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act. The MORE Act, or H.R. 3617, removes marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, facilitates expungement and resentencing for nonviolent federal marijuana convictions, promotes diverse participation in the regulated cannabis industry, and helps repair the racially and economically disparate harms caused by our nation’s disastrous prohibition policies.

To address the damages caused by cannabis prohibition, an Opportunity Trust Fund created by the MORE Act would provide job training, re-entry services for previously incarcerated individuals, and health education programs for communities impacted by the War on Drugs. The bill also establishes an Office of Cannabis Justice to implement the social equity provisions of the bill, promote cannabis research, and guarantee that federal benefits and services are not denied to cannabis users. The Small Business Association would be accountable for forming a Cannabis Restorative Opportunity Program to expand cannabis licensing programs that limit barriers to participation in the industry.
