State of Emergency Curfew Effects on Cannabis Businesses

The cannabis industry has seen many trials and tribulations, however, none of us could have anticipated the current landscape: trying to keep patients and employees safe from both a Global Pandemic and numerous riots (not to be confused with peaceful protesting), that have taken over several cities in the United States of America.

To date, over 40 cities in the United States including Washington, DC have imposed curfews in response to the continuing protests against the death of African-American man, George Floyd. Which has left many business owners operating without a roadmap in uncharted waters while questioning how to keep patients, employees, and facilities safe. There isn’t one correct course of action – but for medical cannabis dispensaries, the number one concerns are the safety of their employees and patients.

Many cannabis businesses have been significantly affected according to marijuana news online reporting, Marijuana Moment – national cannabis dispensary chain, MedMen, have temporarily closed all locations as of June 1, 2020, after several of their retail outlets were looted, as well as locally owned and operated “mom and pop” dispensaries, such as Magnolia Wellness in Oakland that was hit by armed robbers who walked away with all of the small dispensary’s inventory.

Our team at Cannabis Business Advisors understand that considering everything happening, these are uneasy and unsettling times. Our CEO, Sara Gullickson, speaks on behalf of the entire Cannabis Business Advisors team in saying “We founded Cannabis Business Advisors because we believe in building a diverse, vibrant, and safe cannabis community. These same values apply on a larger scale, to our human community. In this time of crisis, let us remember we are all in this together and together, we can do better. We stand with George Floyd.”

Over the past few days, dozens of cities across the country have imposed curfews, declared states of emergency, while also updating safety measures in response to COVID-19. Cannabis Business Advisors is here to help medical cannabis facilities during this time as they navigate evolving regulations and work to ensure the safety of their staff, patients, and communities.
