STATE STATUS

The state of Nevada legalized both adult-use and medical cannabis. Persons 21 years and older may purchase and possess cannabis, while registered patients have access to medical cannabis. Access to cannabis is through state licensed businesses that are allowed to grow, manufacture and sell cannabis.

Nevada legalized medical cannabis in 2000, through a ballot, Question 9, which provided a legal way for qualifying patients in the state to access and utilize medical cannabis as a form of treatment for their ailment. In 2016, Nevada legalized medical cannabis through a ballot, Question 2, which provided a legal system and access to cannabis for persons 21 years and older.

NEVADA MARIJUANA BUSINESS LICENSES

Nevada Cannabis Cultivation – can grow cannabis plants and sell wholesale to other Nevada licensed Cannabis Businesses. There are no state-wide limits on number of cultivation licenses available.

Nevada Cannabis Processor can extract, process and produce cannabis products such as edibles, concentrates, tinctures, etc and sell to retail stores. There are no state-wide limits on number of cultivation licenses available. 

Nevada Medical Cannabis Retailcan purchase cannabis from licensed cultivation and manufacturing facilities and sell cannabis to qualifying patients with a valid medical marijuana card. There is a limit of 66 business licenses allowed for Nevada Cannabis Retailers within the state.

Nevada Adult-Use Cannabis Retail can purchase cannabis from licensed cultivation and manufacturing facilities and sell cannabis to persons 21 years and older. There is a limit of 132 business licenses allowed for Retailers within the state.

HOW TO START A MARIJUANA BUSINESS IN NEVADA

To obtain a marijuana business license in Nevada, you will be required to submit an application. As part of the application, some of the plans you will need to include the following:

  • Security Plan.
  • Environmental Impact Plan.
  • Quality Control and Quality Assurance Plan.
  • Business History Plan.
  • Financial Plan.
  • Community Benefits Plan.
  • Research Plan.
  • Cultivation, Manufacturing and/or Dispensing Plan.
  • Labor Compliance Plan.
  • Staffing and Training Plan.
