WEST VIRGINIA

Overview:

The state of West Virginia legalized medical cannabis in 2017, through a Legislative bill, Senate Bill 386, which provided a legal way for qualifying patients in the state to access and utilize medical cannabis as a form of treatment for their ailment. Access to medical cannabis is through state licensed businesses that are allowed to grow, manufacture and sell medical cannabis.

2017 – West Virginia legalized medical cannabis
Dec 2019 to Feb 2020 – West Virginia licensing period for medical cannabis businesses
August 2020 – Anticipated date for medical cannabis business licenses to be awarded
2021 – Anticipated date for medical cannabis access to patients

WEST VIRGINIA MARIJUANA BUSINESS LICENSES

West Virginia Medical Cannabis Grower – can grow medical cannabis plants and sell wholesale to other licensed West Virginia Medical Cannabis Businesses. There is a limit of ten (10) business licenses allowed for Medical Cannabis Cultivation within the state

West Virginia Medical Cannabis Processor – can extract, process and produce medical cannabis products such as topicals, concentrates, tinctures, etc. and sell to licensed dispensaries. There is a limit of ten (10) business licenses allowed for Medical Cannabis Processors within the state

West Virginia Medical Cannabis Retail – can purchase medical cannabis from licensed grower and processor facilities and dispense medical cannabis to registered patients. There is a limit of 100 business licenses allowed for West Virginia Medical Cannabis Dispensaries within the state.
