2022 Alabama Cannabis Business Licenses
2022 Alabama Cannabis Business Licenses
The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission is preparing for the state’s new Medical Marijuana Program set to launch in 2023. The Commission will begin accepting applications for its Cannabis Business Licenses on September 1st of this year.
While medical cannabis is legal statewide, the Commission will not award licenses in municipalities unless the county and/or municipality has authorized the operation of cannabis businesses. The city of Montgomery has already approved an ordinance welcoming cannabis businesses and the town leaders are hopeful for the jobs this new industry will create for its community.
Available Licenses
Individuals can apply for a license in one of the following independent categories: Cultivator, processor, secure transporter, state testing laboratory, or dispensary. Integrated licenses, permitting cultivation, processing, and dispensing, will also be available. For more details on license types, visit our Alabama State Page.
The state’s medical marijuana law set limits on the number of licenses they will issue including:
- No more than 12 cultivating licenses
- Up to 4 processing licenses
- Up to 4 dispensary licenses
- Up to 5 vertically integrated licenses
More dispensary licenses could be approved down the road if patient demand warrants additional locations. If you are interested in applying an Alabama Cannabis Business license, contact our licensing team for more information.
