Indiana: Sen. Rodney Pol (D) has introduced legislation that would legalize marijuana for recreational and medical purposes in the state. The bill would establish a regulatory framework and excise tax for cannabis, while creating an Indiana Cannabis Commission (ICC) and Advisory Committee to oversee the program. Reps. Jim Lucas (R) and Shane Lindauer (R) introduced legislation to create a medical cannabis program in Indiana for people with “serious medical conditions as determined by their physician.” The state Department of Health would be responsible for regulating the program.

Alabama: The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals will hear arguments on February 11 at 10 a.m. over Montgomery Circuit Court Judge James Anderson’s temporary restraining order against the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC), according to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals Clerk’s office. The hearing was initially scheduled for January 13.
Kentucky: On Wednesday, House Bills 105 and 106 were introduced to the Kentucky General Assembly. HB 105 proposed to amend the Kentucky Constitution, granting residents over age 21 the right to possess up to one ounce and cultivate up to five cannabis plants “for personal use,” the bill said. HB 106 would, in part, retroactively vacate a cannabis possession conviction and expunge those charges from the criminal records of Kentuckians.

New York: A group of marijuana dispensary owners on Thursday sued New York cannabis regulators for allegedly illegally allowing pot shops to open too close together.
The lawsuit, which joins other challenges to New York’s recreational marijuana program, accused state cannabis officials of improperly approving licenses for marijuana dispensaries seeking to open within 1,000 feet of legal pot shops already granted licenses, court records show.
