On November 3rd, 2020, New Jersey voters had the opportunity to vote on Public Question 1 to legalize adult-use marijuana program in the state.
Public Question 1 to legalize adult-use marijuana passed with a 67% for and 33% against.
What does this mean for New Jersey and the Marijuana Program?
The passing of Public Question 1 legalizes the use and possession of marijuana for adults twenty-one (21) years of age and older.
There will be a to-be-determined number of recreational marijuana business licenses available in New Jersey. While there is mention of marijuana businesses in the amendment, there aren’t any specifics. It calls for the state’s Cannabis Regulatory Committee (CRC) to establish and oversee the recreational program’s rules and regulations. Limitations (if any) and details for marijuana business licenses will likely unfold in the rule-making process.
The Cannabis Regulatory Committee (CRC) and the state Legislature will develop rules and regulations to regulate the number of marijuana business licenses, homegrown, possession limits, and other basic regulations.
